Instructions and Help about Is a food donation tax deductible

In 2022 the seven regional food banks serving the Old Dominion distributed almost 40 million pounds of fresh produce to hungry Virginians but the demand for fresh produce keeps growing and farmers have an opportunity to help even more thanks to a state food donation tax credit fresh produce is one of the more nutritious items that were able to distribute it's often the most expensive item that our low-income families have to try to get at the grocery store and so the more we can source that locally the better because we believe in working with our local farmers supporting our local agricultural economy we know helps everybody in the communities we serve and so the more we can build those bridges and get food straight off the off the field and into our pantries the better Eddy Oliver is executive director of the Federation of Virginia food banks this umbrella group represents the regional warehouses and distribution points that collect and distribute most of the bulk foods donated from the USDA in businesses Greg Knight at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank agrees more fresh produce is their top need the chief reason is fresh food is the best food we have a lot of instances of the clients with hypertension diabetes things like that that fresh food is going to help with that where some of the more processed foods it's going to work as a negative toward nutrition the other reason that local food is important for us is if we bring a truckload of food in from say the southeast or the Midwest I've got a freight bill to pay so that may be anywhere from two thousand to four thousand dollars I can keep that and apply it to other programs and food if we get the food locally plus it's just the right thing to do to help our local economy the 2022 Virginia General Assembly agreed to allow farmers a state income tax credit for donating food worth up to thirty percent of the fair market retail or wholesale value of crops like grains fruits nuts and vegetables farmers often end up with extra produce it's either not profitable to sell or not aesthetically pleasing enough for the grocery shelf the tax credit is a good incentive for those producers to donate but it also reinforces a farmers natural instinct to feed people especially those less fortunate Danny and Evelyn Darlene so of Carroll County started donating extra sweet corn three years ago now they deliberately plant a few extra rows of cabbage each year with our economic situation in this country this day and time a lot of people can't afford to go out to the grocery stores and buy fresh produce it gives us opportunity to market market some of our produce that don't go won't go to the market fresh market like if a cabbage get too big or if you get binding you're spraying system you scared.

Under what circumstances is a donation to an overseas charity tax deductible for US tax purposes?
There are two relatively easy options for supporting causes outside the U.S. You can recommend a grant to an American charity that works overseas, or you can recommend a grant to an American intermediary charity that will, in turn, make a grant to your preferred organization for an additional fee.The following intermediary charities specialize in various regions of the world, and they can help you support the causes you care about.CAF America - Focus: WorldwideGive2Asia - Focus: Asia-PacificThe Resource Foundation - Focus: Mexico, Central and South America, and the CaribbeanKBFUS - Focus: Europe and AfricaDepending on what you’re trying to accomplish, the establishment of a private foundation might meet your needs. How much money in charitable donations can a person deduct from his/her taxes before being taxed on his/her donations in the US?
Although this seems a simple question, as with anything dealing with taxes the answer is anything but.  First, you will not be taxed on excess donations.  The excess is either carried forward to future tax years or it is lost.  But, there are limitations to what you can deduct based on the type of charity receiving the donation, the type of donation and the tax basis of the donation. There are a number of different type of charities.  To simplify this answer I will limit this to a standard 501c3 charity, which is the public charities most of us think of when thinking of charities. For this type, if you contribute cash, you can deduct donations up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. So, if you earn $100,000 you can deduct $50,000.  If you donate more than $50k the extra amount can be used against later income tax filings for an additional 5 years. If you give appreciated marketable securities ie publicly traded stocks, you can deduct donations up to 30% of adjusted gross income and carry forward the rest.  Note, here, you avoid paying capital gains taxes on your donation is the stock has an unrealized gain.  This is generally the better type of gift to make.If you give hard-to-value assets, those not readily traded and priced ie real estate, closely held business interest and so on, your deduction is limited to the cost basis, not the market value of the asset and limited to the 30% rule.
When Whole Foods donates the accumulated donated bag credits is that tax deductible?
They are "selling" the bag for 10 cents.  Taxable income to them.  They have "decided" to give that 10 cents to charity.  Tax deductible to them.  They do not have to do it.
Which form is to be filled out to avoid an income tax deduction from a bank?
Banks have to deduct TDS when interest income is more than Rs.10,000 in a year. The bank includes deposits held in all its branches to calculate this limit. But if your total income is below the taxable limit, you can submit Forms 15G and 15H to the bank requesting them not to deduct any TDS on your interest. Please remember that Form 15H is for senior citizens, those who are 60 years or older, while Form 15G is for everybody else.Form 15G and Form 15H are valid for one financial year. So you have to submit these forms every year if you are eligible. Submitting them as soon as the financial year starts will ensure the bank does not deduct any TDS on your interest income.Conditions you must fulfill to submit Form 15G:Youare an individual or HUFYou must be a Resident IndianYou should be less than 60 years oldTax calculated on your Total Income is nilThe total interest income for the year is less than the minimum exemption limit of that year, which is Rs 2,50,000 for financial year 2016-17Thanks for being here
What tax for do I need to fill out if I make donations and invest in stocks?

Are businesses noble when they donate to a charity if their donation is tax deductible?
A business does not perform moral or noble acts, rather it is a reflection of the individuals who make decisions about how a business acts in specific situations. One act of making a charitable donation does not equate to being noble. Businesses are typically driven by profit motivation, as they should be. If making a donation to charity is “good for business”, then the motivation of the donation is more profit centric than a desire to do something good. That does not make it a bad thing to do, but you have to know the intent and motivation of the individual people who compel a business to make a donation.
